Google's AI Overview Now Drives 1 in 13 Organic Sessions
Nine months of tracking data shows AI Overviews pulled 7.53% of search traffic from traditional organic results. Here's what that means for your visibility.
Nine months of tracking data shows AI Overviews pulled 7.53% of search traffic from traditional organic results. Here's what that means for your visibility.
Google's AI Overviews are no longer experimental. A nine-month measurement spanning September 2025 through June 2026 shows they now drive 7.53% of organic search sessions. That is roughly one in thirteen clicks that historically would have landed on a business listing, a blog post, or a product page.
When Google displays an AI Overview, the summary appears at the top of the search results. A user gets an instant answer, a definition, a recipe, a price comparison, a how-to, without clicking through. Some users then click through to the sources cited in the AI answer. Many do not.
For a business owner, this matters because that 7.53% is traffic that no longer lands on your site. It lands on Google's page. The user gets the information they wanted from the AI summary and moves on, or clicks one of Google's cited sources instead of yours, even if yours was a strong organic result.
AI Overviews have the biggest impact on search categories where the AI can answer the question completely: weather, definitions, quick facts, simple how-tos, and comparison shopping. They have less impact on branded searches, local business queries, and high-intent commercial searches where users are ready to buy and want to visit your site directly.
The 7.53% average masks real variation. If you sell generic products, compete on price, or provide educational content, your traffic loss may be higher. If you run a local service or sell a branded product, your loss may be smaller.
AI Overviews are not a passing feature. The 7.53% figure tells you they are now a structural part of Google Search. The question is not whether they exist, but whether your content is positioned to feed them or be buried by them.
From September 2025 to June 2026, 7.53% of organic sessions came from AI Overviews.

How WebKing runs this
We track which of your organic sessions come from AI Overviews versus traditional listings, and we help you reposition content so it feeds the AI answer or ranks above it. That way you own visibility in both places.
According to nine months of tracked data from September 2025 through June 2026, AI Overviews accounted for 7.53% of organic sessions. That means roughly one in thirteen clicks that used to land on your page now stops at Google's AI summary instead.
The source tracks the behavior but does not report whether the percentage is growing or shrinking; you need ongoing monitoring to know if AI Overviews are taking more of your traffic month to month.
The data is aggregated across all tracked events, so some categories lose more than 7.53% (especially those where AI can fully answer the question) and others lose less. You need to know your own split.
You can optimize to appear in the AI answer itself (which still drives clicks when users want more detail) or compete for the featured snippet and top positions that feed those summaries, or both.
